Local Education Agency (LEA)

A local education agency (LEA) is an educational institution that exists primarily to operate publicly funded school(s) in the District of Columbia. The District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) serves as DC’s by-right LEA where students have a right to attend a given school based on their address.  DC is also home to public charter LEAs that are accessible via the My School DC lottery system.
