School Options Outside My School DC

My School DC is the common application and public school lottery for DC Public Schools (DCPS) and DC public charter schools (PK3 – Grade 12). Few public charter schools that serve PK3 – Grade 12 do not participate in My School DC. Additionally, adult public charter schools, DCPS Opportunity Academies, community-based PK programs, daycares, and private and parochial schools do not participate in My School DC. For more information about these programs, please contact them directly.

Free PK Through Community-based Organizations (CBOs)

The District of Columbia offers free, high-quality PK for residents through a mixed delivery system that includes community-based organizations (CBOs) participating in the Pre-K Enhancement and Expansion Program (PKEEP).

To be eligible for enrollment in a PKEEP classroom, children must be DC residents and be three years of age or four years of age on or before Sept. 30 of the program year for which the child is being enrolled and be no older than five years of age before Sept. 30 of the program year for which the child is being enrolled. Parents wishing to enroll their child in a PKEEP program must apply directly to the participating CBOs, not through My School DC.

The DC ReEngagement Center

The DC ReEngagement Collaborative works with DC public and public charter schools to reduce and prevent youth disengagement from education, reduce chronic absenteeism, and support reengagement in education. They achieve this mission by providing technical assistance to schools and partnering with community-based organizations (CBOs) that serve youth to support school reengagement.

DC ReEngagement Center Services Offered:

  • Scholar ReEngagement Support: Support to disengaged youth to help find the best-fit educational placement and/or CBOS to provide barrier remediation support.
  • Community Engagement: Participation in community events across the District to provide scholars with educational placement information and community resources.
  • Annual Youth Summit: Youth and young adults partake in workshops about leadership, navigating systemic issues, and college and career opportunities.
  • Technical Assistance: Provide support to LEA and school communities aiming to reduce chronic absenteeism, disengagement from education, and support school improvement initiatives.
